MUSIC FOR 18 MUSICIANS
DEBUTPatriot Percussion's final two performances of brought the Chamber/Minimalism performance to center stage for the special Band and Orchestra spring concerts. Executive Director and Arranger of Steve Reich's Music For 18 Musicians, Johnathan Rickard, talked to the audience about Steve Reich, the arrangement, and the entire operation it took to put on a performance like this.

PERFORMANCEMusic For 18 Musicians kicked off both concerts. Patriot Percussion, alongside student members of Franklin's Bands and Orchestras, and even outside musicians from NorthRidge Church and The Julliard School of Music came together to play two packed auditoriums! Both nights, the audience responded very well to the concert's opening performance.

ARRANGEMENTOver the span of four months, Executive Director Johnathan Rickard studied and arranged many different five minute versions of the iconic minimalist piece. The final product that was performed was score for 2 Bb clarinets/Bass Drum, 1 Bass Clarinet/Flute, 1 Tenor Saxophone/Maracas, 1 Cello, 2 Violins, 2 Marimbas, 1 Xylophone (shared by 2 players), 1 Vibraphone, and 4 Pianos.

Patriot Percussion held its first ever Percussion Ensemble Only Concert in January. The 7:00 pm concert in the FHS PAC had great lighting, sound, performance, and attendance! Executive Director Johnathan Rickard talked to the audience about the interesting parts of planning a full percussion concert, the overall experience of the ensembles endeavors, information of the selections performed, and the reason the concert was scheduled and held. Students that performed included Original Ensemble Members Johnathan Rickard, Eva Muller, Zachary Young, Past Ensemble Member Gregory Jackson and Future Ensemble Member Ian Clark.

The January concert provided a new format that broke the normal concert atmosphere of Franklin High School, and pushed students, staff and attendees to understand the importance of different and exciting opportunities for performing arts. The reception by the audience afterwards proved that Patriot Percussion was able to engage and create a wonderful time for everyone involved!
